What’s on the Real NLE

The actual NLE is longer than this sample — expect roughly 500 items across two days (Nov Saturday and Sunday), covering the four NLE test areas plus their sub-domains. All items are multiple choice with four options.

  • Day 1 Morning: Foundation of Nursing Practice (100 items). Legal-ethical bases, health assessment, fundamentals of nursing, community health, communication, nursing process.
  • Day 1 Afternoon: Care of Mother and Child (100 items). Maternal-newborn nursing, pediatric nursing, family planning, reproductive health.
  • Day 2 Morning: Care of Clients with Physiologic and Psychosocial Alterations (200 items across two exams). Medical-surgical nursing, mental health/psychiatric nursing.
  • Day 2 Afternoon: Care of Clients with Life-Threatening Conditions (100 items). Emergency nursing, critical care, disaster management.

How to Read Your Score

  • 18–20 correct (90–100%): Outstanding. You are tracking for a strong NLE pass with possible top-notcher potential.
  • 16–17 correct (80–89%): Passing pace. Solid performance — NLE passing average is 75%.
  • 14–15 correct (70–79%): Borderline. Drill your weakest subject area from the breakdown.
  • 10–13 correct (50–69%): Needs work. Start with the subject where you scored lowest.
  • 0–9 correct (below 50%): Just starting. Commit to a 20-week structured NLE prep plan.
