Application Period and Deadline

The application period for the 2023 NCE will open on July 3 and close on October 27. During this time frame, eligible students can submit their applications to take part in this highly competitive examination.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the PSHS National Competitive Examination, a current Grade 6 (SY 2023-2024) pupil from a duly recognized school by the Department of Education must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Excellence: Attain a final grade of 85% or higher in Science and Mathematics, as evidenced by the student’s report card. In cases where a student’s grades in Science or Math fall below 85%, they must provide evidence that they belong to the upper 10% of their batch.
  • Citizenship: Be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as an immigrant to any foreign country.
  • Age Limit: Not exceed 15 years of age by June 30, 2024.
  • Character Assessment: Have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in their Character Rating as indicated on their Grade 5 report card for S.Y. 2022-2023.
  • No Previous Application: Not have previously applied for admission to PSHS.
  • Good Health: Preferably be in good health and fit to undergo a demanding academic program.

Application Process

Interested student applicants to the Philippine Science High School may apply directly to the nearest PSHS campus, DOST Regional Offices, and Provincial Science and Technology Offices. Additionally, an online application platform is available at https://nce.pshs.edu.ph/.

Requirements for Walk-in Applicants:

  1. Fully Accomplished Application Form: Downloadable at https://pshs.edu.ph/ (incomplete forms will not be processed).
  2. Recent 1×1 ID Photos.
  3. Non-Refundable Processing Fee: PHP 300 for private school students (amount based on the applicant’s Grade 5 school).
  4. No Processing Fee: Public school students and students with full scholarships from private schools.
  5. Certified True Copy of Grade 5 Report Card (S.Y. 2022-2023): Authenticated by the class adviser or principal.
  6. Evidence of Belonging to the Upper 10% (if applicable): If final grades in Science or Math are below 85%.
  7. Certification from Private School (if applicable): For pupil-applicants on full scholarships.

Requirements for Online Applicants:

  1. Scanned/Digitized Copy of Most Recent 1×1 ID Photos.
  2. Scanned/Digitized Copy of Proof of Payment: PHP 300 processing fee for students admitted to a private school for fifth Grade (payment can be made at https://nce.pshs.edu.ph/).
  3. No Processing Fee: Public school students and students with full scholarships from private schools.
  4. Scanned/Digitized File of Certified True Copy of Grade 5 Report Card (S.Y. 2022-2023): Authenticated by the class adviser or principal.
  5. Scanned/Digitized Copy of Evidence of Belonging to the Upper 10% (if applicable): If final grades in Science or Math are below 85%.
  6. Certification from Private School (if applicable): For pupil-applicants on full scholarships.

Examination Permit and Further Steps

The Examination Permit will be issued to the applicants upon completion of all required documents by the PSHS campus where the application was processed. For applications submitted in the DOST offices, the exam permits will be mailed to the applicant or to the School Principals for distribution to student applicants from their schools. For those who applied via the online platform, the exam permits will be auto-generated at the end of the application.

In case exam permits are not received two (2) weeks prior to the examination day, applicants should check with the nearest PSHS campus, DOST Regional Office, DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office, or the PSHS System Admissions Office.
